Triethylene Glycol Prices: Market Analysis, Trend, News, Graph and Demand

North America

The North American Triethylene Glycol (TEG) market experienced modest price fluctuations influenced by shifting supply-demand dynamics and broader economic factors.

At the beginning of the quarter, TEG prices recorded a slight dip. Although crude oil prices declined, stable demand from the oilfield sector, coupled with steady feedstock availability, helped maintain market balance. Strong activity in oil and gas production supported price stability despite external headwinds.

Midway through the quarter, prices edged upward, driven by sustained demand from the textiles and automotive sectors and consistent production rates. However, overall market sentiment remained cautious. Falling crude oil prices and rising economic pressures, including an uptick in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), constrained downstream activity and limited further price growth.

Towards the end of the quarter, TEG prices took a downward turn, falling by 1.02% to USD 1256/MT, particularly in the U.S. market. This decline was largely attributed to reduced demand from the antifreeze and automotive sectors, alongside widespread destocking efforts. A notable drop in vehicle sales further dampened consumption in key applications. Despite prevailing logistical challenges and soft market sentiment, supply stability was maintained through effective inventory management and consistent feedstock costs, helping to prevent major disruptions.

Europe

The European TEG market displayed mixed pricing trends, shaped by regional demand patterns, feedstock cost dynamics, and economic developments. Overall, the market faced downward pressure, largely due to oversupply and muted demand from antifreeze and industrial segments. A decline in Ethylene Oxide (EO) prices, driven by weakening upstream Ethylene values, further reinforced the bearish outlook.

While colder months typically boost seasonal demand for deicing and antifreeze products, unseasonably mild weather across Europe limited this effect. Additionally, reduced purchasing activity from the automotive and industrial sectors further challenged market performance.

However, in December 2024, Germany saw a modest price rebound. TEG prices rose by 1.2% to USD 1688/MT CFR Germany, buoyed by increased logistics costs—including elevated freight rates and concerns over potential U.S. port strikes. Steady demand from oilfield operations and deicing applications also contributed to this localized bullish trend.

Asia-Pacific

The Asia-Pacific TEG market remained under sustained bearish pressure due to sluggish downstream demand, oversupply, and a surge in low-cost imports. Market sentiment remained weak throughout the quarter as domestic production and cheaper overseas imports flooded the market, limiting opportunities for price recovery.

Seasonal demand for antifreeze and coolant applications was curtailed by mild weather in several key regions, while the broader slowdown in industrial and automotive activity—exacerbated by macroeconomic uncertainties—further reduced consumption.

Although manufacturing activity remained relatively stable, increasing inventory levels compelled producers to lower prices in an effort to stay competitive. Feedstock costs, including Ethylene Oxide, remained largely steady, while declining crude oil prices helped reduce production costs. Nevertheless, these cost advantages were insufficient to counterbalance the subdued demand environment.

By the latter part of the quarter, China—one of the region’s largest TEG markets—witnessed a significant price drop, with rates falling to USD 1180/MT CFR Qingdao. This sharp decline was driven by an influx of low-cost imports, heightened domestic output, and weak demand from key sectors such as paints, coatings, and automotive. End-of-year destocking and bearish market sentiment further intensified the downward pressure, underscoring the challenges faced by the Asian TEG market in Q4.
