Acetone Prices: Market Analysis, Trend, Graph, News and Forecast

North America

The U.S. Acetone market trended bearish, with prices maintaining a downward trajectory amid stable production costs and moderate demand from downstream sectors such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and Methyl Methacrylate (MMA).

While supply chain disruptions—like minor plant outages and potential labor strikes—introduced market uncertainties, overall demand remained steady, particularly from MMA and Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) industries, which showed resilience against broader economic pressures.

Domestic production was slightly constrained due to limited availability of feedstocks like cumene and propylene. Geopolitical concerns, including tariff speculation and labor unrest, pushed import/export costs higher, complicating trade. Despite these challenges, acetone prices saw minimal fluctuations, reflecting a balance between steady demand and tight supply.

Asia-Pacific (APAC)

South Korea’s acetone market in Q4 2024 followed a downward trend, largely due to weak demand and reduced purchasing activity from terminal industries. Market sentiment remained subdued, with traders cautious and transaction volumes low.

Demand from key sectors, especially MMA and aromatics, continued to soften, leading to a restrained outlook. Although production levels were stable and adequate for domestic and export needs, falling feedstock prices—particularly cumene—exerted additional downward pressure on acetone values.

With buyers hesitant and trading largely passive, the market showed limited movement. Still, stable supply and some downstream support offered short-term balance, with stabilization expected barring any major supply disruptions.

Europe

The European acetone market in Q4 2024 faced pricing pressure driven by oversupply and weak demand. A surplus of phenol prompted producers to cut output, inadvertently tightening acetone supply, since acetone is a by-product of phenol. This imbalance lent some upward pressure to prices.

However, despite maintenance shutdowns at producers like Ineos and Cepsa, acetone availability remained adequate. Demand from key sectors—such as solvents and adhesives—remained sluggish, limiting any price recovery. Falling crude oil and feedstock prices (phenol, styrene) further weighed on the market.

With buyer sentiment cautious and trading activity muted—especially during the holiday season—MMA prices fluctuated, and the overall outlook stayed bearish amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
